The Ultimate Guide to Spa Etiquette

The Ultimate Guide to Spa Etiquette

Ready to use that gift card from the holidays?

Visiting a luxury day spa is a wonderful way to relax, rejuvenate, and pamper yourself. However, if you're new to the spa experience, you might feel a bit unsure about what to expect and how to behave. This guide will help you navigate the world of spa etiquette, ensuring that you and those around you have a pleasant and relaxing experience.

1. Arrive Early

One of the most important aspects of spa etiquette is punctuality. Arriving at least 15-20 minutes before your scheduled appointment allows you to check in, change into your robe, and start to unwind. This also ensures that your treatment can start on time, which is respectful to both the therapist and other clients.

2. Silence Your Devices

A spa is a sanctuary of peace and tranquility. To maintain this serene environment, it's essential to silence your phone and other electronic devices. Better yet, leave them in your locker. This helps you fully disconnect and enjoy the experience, while also respecting the relaxation of others.

3. Communicate Your Preferences

Don't hesitate to communicate your preferences and needs to your therapist. Whether it's the pressure of a massage, the temperature of the room, or any specific areas you'd like to focus on or avoid, clear communication ensures you get the most out of your treatment. Remember, the therapists are there to make your experience as enjoyable as possible, but they can't read your mind.  Please know, we do the best we can to control the HVAC system and keep the room temperature comfortable, but as a large facility, that can sometimes be difficult.  We have heaters on our beds and blankets if you are cold and if you are hot, we can add cold stones or remove the heat to help you feel comfortable.

4. Dress Appropriately

At Whisper Creek, we provide robes, slippers, and towels for your use. It's best to arrive in comfortable clothing and change into the provided attire. We provide private changing rooms and four relaxation lounges to give you the space you need to feel comfortable before your treatment.

5. Respect Privacy

Respecting the privacy of others is crucial in a spa setting. Keep conversations to a minimum and speak in hushed tones. If you're in a communal area, such as a sauna or relaxation lounge, be mindful of personal space and avoid staring or making others uncomfortable.  Please do not speak on a speaker phone, use Facetime or other video chat functions in our spa areas.  If you are looking for quiet and others are not being quiet, please let one of our concierge team members know and we can move you to another lounge and address the situation.  Additionally, if you want to be livelier with a group, let our concierge team know when you book that you are a group and we can make arrangements for you to be in your own lounge.

6. Hygiene Matters

Good hygiene is a must when visiting a spa. Shower before using any communal facilities like saunas. This not only ensures your own cleanliness but also maintains the hygiene standards of the spa. Additionally, avoid wearing heavy perfumes or lotions that might affect others.

7. Tipping Etiquette

Tipping is generally expected at most spas, and it's a way to show appreciation for the therapist's hard work. The standard tip is usually 20% of the treatment cost, but our hard working therapists appreciate more if they have exceeded your expectations.

8. Handle Valuables with Care

While we have a large locker room, it's best to leave valuable items at home. If you must bring them, ensure they are securely stored. This helps you relax without worrying about your belongings.

9. Post-Treatment Relaxation

After your treatment, take some time to relax and enjoy the post-treatment glow. Enjoy our lounges where you can sit back, sip on herbal tea, enjoy a glass of wine and let the benefits of your treatment sink in. We also have a sauna inspired salt inhalation room where you can meditate, nap or just continue the relaxation from your treatment for another 45 minutes.  Rushing out immediately can diminish the overall experience.

10. Feedback is Welcome

If you have any feedback about your experience, don't hesitate to share it with the spa staff. Constructive feedback helps the spa improve its services and ensures that your next visit is even better.  We pride ourselves on creating a five-star luxury experience, but mistakes can happen and we always strive to correct them as soon as possible.

By following these simple guidelines, you can ensure a smooth and enjoyable spa experience for yourself and others. The goal of a spa visit is to relax and rejuvenate, so embrace the tranquility and let go of any stress or worries. Happy pampering!
